Monika Gossmann was born in Alma-Ata / Kazakhstan and grew up bilingual (German and Russian). At the age of six she moved to Germany with her family. In 2007 she completed her acting education at the famous Moscow Stanislavski Art Theatre School. She went on to play leading roles in renowned theatres and was soon able to star in international feature films such as “Iron Sky,” “Mad Mary,” “Maximum Impact,” “George,” “The Unforgiven” and the “Kangaroo Chronicles” alongside big stars.
Since 2012 Monika has taught the “Lucid Body Technique” at renowned acting schools worldwide and in 2019 she was appointed as a Professor for Acting at the University of Florida. She runs her own production company “Teamonfireproductions” and has been working successfully as a writer and theatre director for years. Among others, she directed “The Snow Lion” by Tenzin Tsundue for the Dalai Lama’s Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Macleod Ganj. Her first musical ” Dorian” was signed by the renowned publishing house “Rodgers & Hammerstein” and her play “Humboldt” will be published by “Rusdeutsch-Verlag” this year.
After her great success as Fräulein Frieda in David Fincher’s Oscar-winning masterpiece “MANK”, Monika has completed her first project as a film director, an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “Three Sisters”.
In summer 2021, she will shoot the HBO series “The Staircase” with Toni Colette and Colin Firth.
